The 87th Annual Academy Predictions

It’s award season! And that means that the highly prestigious Academy Awards are just hours away! Which also means that critics and general viewers alike are predicting who is going to win the big award(s).

Although unlike many other regular Internet users, I am not going to predict the winners of each current category. I am instead going to predict the events that will happen before and during the Oscars.

Things that are going to happen BEFORE and DURING the Oscars:

-Benedict Cumberbatch is going to photo bomb someone.

-The red carpet hosts will repeatedly ask the nominees “who” they are wearing.

-Steve Carrell will be asked about his dramatic role change for Foxcatcher.

-Wes Anderson will show up in a pink limo.

-Michael Keaton will be bombarded with accusations that Birdman was inspired by his career.

-Reese Witherspoon will show up without-her spoon.

-References to Meryl Streep’s “massive” Oscar collection (of 3).

-There will be jokes of Richard Linklater spending 12 years on one film.

-Neil Patrick Harris will make at least one reference to How I Met Your Mother.

The “Best” Picture:

The Academy Award for “best” picture signifies the “best” film of the year (as decided by The Academy), yet it is not always trustworthy. For instance in 2004, I think the award should have gone to Steven Spielberg’s Munich yet it went to the controversial Crash. I believe there will be a similar occurrence at this year’s ceremony. I think that the award should go to Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will win. Clint Eastwood has a successful history with the Academy with 5 wins out of 8 nominations. Which would give American Sniper a good chance at winning over Boyhood.

Who do you think deserves the Oscar? Who do you think will win? What do you think will happen on the red carpet and in the ceremony? Leave your comment on the side and don’t forget to check out my Instagram page.

  1. Hi 007 – I think the Academy WILL acknowledge Linklater with a Best DIrector gong, for the sheer achievement of completing a coherent and beautifully balanced film over 12 years. But with so many other deserving winners in the mix this year, I hope they share it around and let Birdman take out Best Picture. Oh, and I hope we see plenty of singing and dancing from NPH.
